SKULLCANDY LOGO REVEAL

The project was to make a sequence that revealed a logo through transformation. Skullcandy makes headphone and other audio equipment. Their message is to be able to feel the power of the music and energy that the artist has made. The concept of power showcases the power behind the headphones and the power of music that can be experienced using Skullcandy products. This is shown through the use of colorful and vibrant daytime/smoke fireworks exploding as the audience follows them through the air.

This is the final sequence, made with a combination of Cinema 4D and image compositing.

The audience starts off looking up at the daytime fireworks launching into the sky. Using a wide angle lens to create dynamic angles evoking energy. I wanted to be able to create a feeling of overwhelming scale so I took inspiration from worm’s-eye-views of redwood trees.

After the launch of the fireworks, the audience flies through the different colors of smoke with a final white firework that has been launched in the center of the frame. The challenge with this frame was to create an authentic sense of perspective and keep a sense of motion with the camera. By playing with the scale of the smoke explosions and leveraging wider camera lenses, I was able to achieve both of these goals.

We go higher into the sky where the logo is revealed from a colorful explosion of the daytime fireworks coming together in a burst of color. I want to be able to have the logo further integrated into the image so originally I had the whole logo made of white smoke. I quickly learned that too much manipulation of the logo would ruin the integrity of the logo so a combination of a smoke and vectorized logo was the best solution.

Over the course of the project, I learned how important it is to be able to layer details and continue to add detail even if its invisible to the audience. It lends itself to creating a more realistic and believable image.
